Weekend with Ricketts

Hi family,
Brad and I went to Rickett's Glen State Park this weekend for a little camping trip. It was our first camping trip together and Brad's second in his life.

For some reason, I remember going camping with a lot of fondness. There were little kids at the park who road the loop around our side of the camp ground over and over again, and who were all excited to eat cereal at a picnic table outside, or get ice cream at the concession stand. It made me think of our trips to Yosemite when Sarah learned how to ride a bike, and we'd always get to eat Corn Pops or Fruit Loops because Aunt Lynn and Uncle Bear would bring it, and how dad would always take us for ice cream at least once.

So those were the good parts.

The bad parts: When, say, you're trying to cook dinner over a fire and it starts pouring rain, making all of your wood damp, and delaying the start of dinner for a couple hours.

Or, when, say, your landlord tells you why she never goes camping anymore because two times she has been camping a person or persons has been killed while she was sleeping, and because of the slasher stories you wake up in the middle of the night and can't sleep.

Not that it matters anyway, because even though you have a coushy sleeping bad and a Thermarest, you're still sleeping on the ground. On top of rocks.

Still, we had a really, really nice time. We tried kayaking. There was a hiking trail that went by more than 20 waterfalls, it was really beautiful.

Hi Hallers

Nothing new to report except that Lukas and I are alive and well...Had a Lovely weekend down in Fredricksburg (we visited Grannie, mom, Ana)...they all send their love and hope all is well (especially grannie).....Speaking of Grannie...Laura, she wanted to tell you that she know that you are "best mother"...she sees the love that you wrap your children in....she also spoke of your boys, and how sweet they are...she sends her love to you and your family.....Ana of course, want to wish Mom and Dad a congrats. on the move out to Colorado...she hopes Mom is making friends out there and enjoying herself (which I assured her she was)...and wishes Dad well to (hopes he not working too hard...Ha!)...and wanted to congrats Dad on his new position.....anyhoo....thats all I got from the Czechs....Miss everyone,....If anyone is lonely call me....I would love to hear from my family...703 389-9467...thats my cell...Take Care.....Love Sarah Svrcekova

Steve's computer part II

I talked to Steve yesterday and asked him about computers on base. He told me that about 1 in 5 guys has a computer and that there are spots on base with wireless access. He kind of seemed keyed up when I was asking about it and I really think this would be a great idea. I think he could keep in touch better, research stuff, and occupy time when he might otherwise get lonely. The big problem is still finding where to send it. He says he is moving again in a week and will get us that address....hmmmmmmmmmm....let's not hold our breath! Anyhow even if he didn't keep in touch with us we could keep in touch with him.- Anyhow, love Ya- Laura

Computer ideas for Steve?

Laura mentioned that we could go in on a computer for Stevie so that maybe we can stay in touch a little better. Just saw this story on Yahoo. Thought it might be useful.

101 days!

I know I'm being a little silly, but I was just looking at my to-do list on "The Knot" and it said there are 101 days left until the wedding. I'm guessing that will fly by. Just wanted to share my giddiness. :)

I just talked to Stevie, he said he had a really great time at home this weekend, and he thanked everyone for coming out to Bealeton.

He also said that Liz had a good time, and felt right at home hangin' with the Hallers.

Thanks so much for hosting the extravaganza, Laura and Kevin, and for cooking all that scrumptious food and for blowing up all those fireworks. And also, thanks for not maiming or injuring yourself or others while blowing up all of those fireworks.

Hi family. I must apologize for my lack of participation with "Go Tell It on the Mountain" I seem to forget my password every time i log in so it is always a process trying to access the site.
